Discovering the Niaux Cave

In the Ariège, the Niaux cave is one of the few caves in the world where you can still see the original paintings, not a replica. Privately booked for your group, lamp in hand and accompanied by a guide, you walk deep under the mountain to the Salon Noir and its bison, horses and ibex painted nearly 14,000 years ago.

After lunch in a local restaurant, you step into our ancestors' shoes at the Prehistory Park in Tarascon-sur-Ariège: lighting a fire, handling tools, painting with ancient techniques. The way back follows the quiet roads of the Ariège, through green landscapes and typical South-West villages, with a stop in Foix, at the foot of its castle. In the evening, a brazier dinner at the château continues the adventure around the fire.
